The Seven Devils are a rugged, backpacking paradise. Jagged peaks, alpine lakes, lush wildflowers, meadows, and solitude predominate. Its high lakes and streams are filled with trout, and the thick forests and wild rivers of its lower valleys are home to mule deer, elk, and black bear. Bighorn sheep and mountain goats roam the high country. The Seven Devils were named after a Nez Perce Indian legend about a young brave who encountered, one after another, seven devils while hunting in the mountains.

Our service project will be trail maintenance on the Six Lakes Basin Trail, the Lake Creek Trail and the Casey Mountain Trail, which is expected to include clearing deadfall with cross cut saws, removing rocks (some quite large), repairing trail tread and rehabilitating campsites. From these trails, there are absolutely gorgeous views of Hells Canyon, the Snake River, and the Wallowa Mountains in Oregon! To reach our base camp, we'll backpack 4 miles into the Hells Canyon Wilderness to Six Lakes Basin. The Forest Service will provide horse support to carry tools, kitchen gear, and group food. Free time can be spent swimming, fishing, exploring and photographing.
