In 1997 Wilderness Volunteers set out to create an affordable national service project program with only a handful of projects. Today, WV typically organizes 50 week-long service trips each year, putting over 500 volunteers at work in public lands across the country.
We work hard to help our federal land agencies accomplish critical projects that would likely go undone without volunteer assistance. Projects include trail construction and maintenance, illegal campsite removal and restoration, invasive plant removal, replanting of burned/eroded areas, barbed-wire fence removal, litter clean-up, and archeological survey just to name a few.
We operate a very lean organization with two paid full-time staff members. The project fee doesn't cover the expenses necessary to run projects (including purchasing food for our volunteers, training our volunteer leaders, purchasing first aid kits and equipment sets, paying for liability insurance, reimbursing our volunteer leaders for some of their travel expenses, etc.) but we work to make up the difference through fundraising to keep project fees affordable.
As a 501c3 non-profit, Wilderness Volunteers depends on donations to keep our program running.
Since 1997 WV has completed more than 800 week-long service projects across the US, contributing well over 300,000 volunteer hours to our nation’s public lands. This amounts to more than $6.5 million of volunteer labor on projects that would likely have gone undone without you, our dedicated project leaders, enthusiastic participants, and our loyal community of fans, sponsors and supporters.
Can you donate a few dollars to help us continue to organize and promote affordable service projects in public lands across the country?
