Wilderness Volunteers ONLINE FUNDRAISING AUCTION, MARCH 2013
Wilderness Volunteers is a national nonprofit putting volunteers in the field to work on projects in cooperation with public land agencies including the National Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management and US Fish & Wildlife Service. The work on these projects would likely not get done without volunteer labor; there is a tremendous backlog of delayed maintenance in these agencies ranging from trail maintenance, campsite restoration, invasive weed removal and habitat restoration. In 2012, we completed 50 week-long projects across the country giving volunteers the opportunity to participate in the stewardship of these wild places. One reporter called the trips “fantasy camps for folks who always wanted to be a park ranger but found themselves working indoors 50 weeks a year.” We teach Leave No Trace backcountry skills on all the projects.
Last year, Wilderness Volunteers contributed 20,976 volunteer hours to our public lands, worth an estimated $457,067.04.
In order to keep the costs to the participants as low as possible, we seek funding to offset program expenses. Our goal for the auction in 2013 is $15,000. In order to meet this goal, we need your help!
Our audience is our trip participants, trip leaders, supporters and agency personnel. We are entering our 16th year of organizing service projects and have a loyal following of fit, active outdoor adventurers who engage in a variety of outdoor pursuits including backpacking, camping, hiking, climbing, rafting, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, road-tripping and traveling abroad.
There are two ways to help: Corporate Sponsorship and Product/Service Donations
